There is a number in Cvent’s new Event-Led Growth Report that should stop any events team in its tracks.
In 2024, the average company planned 29 events. In 2025, that dropped to 16. Not because events stopped working, but because teams stopped confusing volume with impact. And the results went the other way: 68% of marketers now name events as their single most effective marketing channel, and 71% say they hit their revenue goals in every quarter of 2025.
Fewer events. Better events. Better numbers.
What the report actually found
Cvent surveyed more than 1,000 marketers across the US and UK. The headline is that teams running an event-led growth approach, where events are treated as a connected system rather than a series of one-off moments, consistently outperform the teams who do not. Those teams were 47% more likely to rank events as their most effective channel, and 88% of them said events generate a steady flow of revenue for the business.
The measurement side is just as telling. 74% of marketers can now trace a defined portion of their pipeline back to an event touchpoint, and 72% say deals close faster when the prospect has been in the room.
What we take from it
Three things stand out to us, and they hold just as true here as they do in the markets Cvent surveyed.
The first is that the pressure has shifted from “did it go well” to “what did it return”. 28% of marketers named proving ROI as a top challenge for 2026, sitting right behind rising costs. If your event cannot be traced to a business outcome, it will be the line item that gets cut.
The second is that the format matters more than the budget. When Cvent asked which formats drive the highest ROI, workshops came top at 51%, ahead of dinners at 43% and experiential pop-ups at 41%. Panels and lectures came last. People want to do something, not sit and watch.
The third is patience. Only 39% of marketers see results within three months. Half see the real impact between six and twelve months out. An event judged on the week after it happened is being judged too early.
Where this leaves you
If you are planning 2026 right now, the question is not how many events you can run. It is which of them you can measure, and whether the data from each one is feeding the next.
That is a technology question as much as a creative one, and it is the part most teams leave until last.
